Original Toulouse Lautrec Poster 2020, Grand Palais - Paris

This is an original exhibition poster created for Toulouse-Lautrec. Résolument moderne — the landmark retrospective held at the Galeries nationales du Grand Palais in Paris from October 9, 2019 to January 27, 2020. The exhibition was co-produced by the Musée d'Orsay, the Musée de l'Orangerie, and the Réunion des musées nationaux, with the exceptional support of the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Musée Toulouse-Lautrec in Albi.

Bringing together approximately 225 works, the retrospective set out to restore the full scope of Toulouse-Lautrec's achievement — going far beyond his celebrated Montmartre posters to reveal the complete artistic ambition of one of the most singular painters of the 19th century. The exhibition argued forcefully for Toulouse-Lautrec as a direct precursor of the 20th-century avant-garde, a painter of extraordinary speed, psychological acuity, and social daring who transformed lithography into an art form of the highest order.

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864–1901) produced 31 original posters during his short career — works that permanently changed the visual language of advertising and public art, and that remain among the most recognizable images in the history of Western art.

Exhibition posters produced for Grand Palais retrospectives are distributed exclusively within the institution during the exhibition period and collected as cultural documents in their own right — immediate witnesses of some of the most important art events in Paris.
