Original Poster By Pablo Picasso "Les Peintres Temoins De Leur Temps", 1956 - Mourlot

This is an original lithographic poster printed by Mourlot Frères for the exhibition Les Peintres Témoins de leur Temps at the Musée Galliéra in Paris in 1956 — one of the most celebrated recurring exhibitions of post-war French art, dedicated to living painters as witnesses of their era. The image is after Picasso's 1954 painting Portrait de Jacqueline aux Fleurs — one of the most iconic portraits of the most painted woman in the history of modern art.

Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) met Jacqueline Roque in 1952, and she became the great muse of his final two decades. Of all the women who shaped his art — Fernande, Olga, Marie-Thérèse, Dora, Françoise — Jacqueline was the one he returned to most obsessively, painting her over and over in the years between their meeting and his death in 1973. In this image, she appears as a figure of extraordinary stillness and decorative splendour: her elongated neck, her dark eyes, the flowers that surround her — a Picasso at once tender and monumental. For seventeen years she was the only woman he painted.

The poster was executed by Henri Deschamps, Picasso's most trusted master printer at Mourlot and the craftsman responsible for the finest chromatic fidelity in the atelier's history. Catalogued as Czwiklitzer n°119 in an edition of 2,000, this is a well-referenced and authenticatable piece within Picasso's graphic oeuvre.
