This is an original lithographic poster created in 1970 to promote the Salon de Mai exhibition in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France — one of the most prestigious annual showcases of contemporary art in postwar Europe.
The image, a painting by Picasso from the 1960s, was reproduced under his personal supervision by master printer Henri Deschamps at the Ateliers Mourlot, Paris. That direct involvement of the artist in the printing process is what distinguishes these posters from mere reproductions — they are, in every meaningful sense, original works.
This example was printed on Arches paper — the finest French mould-made paper, long favored by master printmakers for its exceptional texture and archival quality. Arches editions were produced in significantly smaller quantities than their standard counterparts, making them considerably rarer and more sought-after by collectors.
A distinguished acquisition for the serious collector.
