This is an original lithographic poster created in 1990 for La Nouvelle École de Montparnasse — an exhibition celebrating the artists who worked at the legendary Ateliers Mourlot in Paris.
The exhibition was a tribute to Fernand Mourlot himself, the master printer who over five decades welcomed Picasso, Braque, Matisse, Chagall, and Miró into his workshop and helped transform lithography into one of the defining art forms of the 20th century. Held in a building adjacent to the original Mourlot studio, the show brought together lithographic works by the many artists who had passed through those doors — making it as much a celebration of a place as of the artists it inspired.
The image chosen for the poster is after Georges Braque — co-founder of Cubism alongside Picasso, and one of Mourlot's most distinguished collaborators. A fitting ambassador for an homage of this kind.
A piece of living history from the heart of 20th-century Parisian art.
