This is an original poster created in 2025 to promote the exhibition Andy Warhol — Univers Pop et Avant-Garde at La Banque, Musée des Cultures et du Paysage in Hyères — a landmark event that brought together 71 works across 171 pieces for the first time ever in France, on exclusive loan from the Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art in Medzilaborce, Slovakia. The timing was made possible by the ongoing renovation of the Slovak museum, creating a rare window for French audiences to encounter works that have never previously crossed the French border. Three additional pieces were lent by the Fondation Carmignac, whose collection of Warhol works ranks among the finest in Europe.
Andy Warhol (1928–1987), born Andrew Warhola in Pittsburgh to Carpatho-Rusyn immigrant parents from what is now Slovakia, is the defining figure of Pop Art and one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. His transformation of consumer imagery — Campbell's Soup cans, Coca-Cola bottles, Marilyn Monroe, Mao Zedong, Elvis Presley — into objects of aesthetic contemplation was not merely a stylistic gesture but a philosophical one: a challenge to the hierarchy between high art and mass culture, between the unique and the multiple, between celebrity and anonymity. His Factory in New York became the most mythologised studio in the history of modern art. His films, his magazine Interview, his silver wigs and his famous silences were as much a part of his practice as his silkscreens.
The exhibition in Hyères presented the full arc of his work — from the iconic Marilyn, Mao, Flowers and Campbell's Soup II series to the immersive Silver Clouds installation and lesser-known early works that reveal the foundations of his visual language. This large-format poster — bold, graphic, immediately recognisable — served as the public face of that encounter.
The poster is in overall good condition with slight handling marks along the edges. Sent rolled, no framing.
A collector's document from a historic exhibition — Warhol's Slovak roots, his French debut, his most iconic images, all in one poster.
