The image is drawn from Picasso's engraving \u003cem\u003eLa Colombe Bleue\u003c\/em\u003e, dated 28 December 1961: a dove in full flight, carrying an olive branch, rendered with the economy and authority of an artist who had been thinking about this bird for over a decade. Printed by Mourlot Frères and catalogued as Czwiklitzer n°207 and Rodrigo n°121, this is one of the most historically significant and personally charged works in Picasso's entire poster oeuvre.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePablo Picasso\u003c\/strong\u003e (1881–1973) had first created his Dove of Peace in 1949, at the request of the poet Louis Aragon, for the first World Peace Congress in Paris. A black-and-white lithograph drawn from a pigeon belonging to Henri Matisse, it was chosen by Aragon overnight and plastered across Paris before dawn — and within days had become the most recognised peace symbol in the world. In the years that followed, Picasso agreed to provide new dove images for peace congresses across Europe: Wroclaw, Stockholm, Sheffield, Vienna, Rome, Moscow. His father José Ruiz Blasco had been a painter of pigeons — one of his favourite subjects — and the young Picasso had drawn doves in his childhood home in Málaga in the 1880s.
