Since its founding in 1950 by the violinist and conductor Franz André, the Festival de Menton has drawn some of the greatest classical musicians in the world to perform under the Mediterranean night sky — Yehudi Menuhin, Arthur Rubinstein, Sviatoslav Richter — with the Baroque façade of the church as backdrop and the scent of lemon trees carried on the sea air.
